Who is the Lady Behind the Camera?
I can vividly remember taking pictures with my grandpa’s old Polaroid camera as early as age 7. I had it strapped around my neck and I would take a picture and shout, “got it!” as the camera spit out the image. Between age 7 and middle school, I was the one in charge of taking pictures at family gatherings and I still have all of the pictures of my friends from middle school. I have saved all of the family photo albums since I was a kid and am the keeper of my grandmother’s family photos. I have always had an attachment to pictures. I love documenting life. I took a journalism class in middle school that taught me how to frame a picture and I haven’t looked back.
I value memories. My first job was selling portrait packages over the phone for Olan Mills. One of my many jobs in high school was at Kinderphoto, a place in the mall where people brought their children for pictures. I can remember the days of taking pictures on film and having to wait until they developed to see if they were any good. All that changed with digital cameras. My kids are lucky that the events of their childhood are documented and saved in the cloud rather than in photo boxes and albums.
There’s nothing better than seeing a smile on the face of someone who has seen a great picture taken of them. I want to be the person to elicit that response. I bought my first DSLR camera in 2019 and continue to work towards upgrading my gear and amassing a comically large collection of lenses. My favorite types of photos are those with people in them. Landscapes are nice and pretty, but those pictures aren’t hanging in my house. As my kids have become involved in sports, my favorite types of photos are action shots - a runner frozen in time; a batter seeing the perfect pitch coming at them. My comfort level is with baseball, but I’m trying new things and learning as I go.
When I’m not behind the camera, I’m a clinical social worker in my own practice, Austin Vitality Counseling. I am a wife of 18+ years and mom to a baseball-loving tween and karate-loving 7 year old. My kids are my muses and I love taking pictures of them and their friends.
I have enjoyed branching out from sports photography to headshots, engagement shots, and family photos. Let me help you create memories that you can value for a lifetime.
Thanks,
Carlye
